Allen Archaeology was commissioned to prepare a desk-based assessment and carry out building survey and archaeological evaluation by trial trenching at Weston Park, in advance of the submission of a planning application for sympathetically restoring the pinery/vinery of the Grade II Listed walled garden.
A Level 3 survey undertaken in accordance with current guidance. The survey encompassed the wall and pinery/vinery, comprising the lean-to structures and pavilions on the west half of the wall that separates the northern and southern halves of the walled garden.

The building survey revealed at least four phases of building and areas dedicated to a number of different activities including a bedroom, kitchen, larder, seed store, and general storage in addition to evidence for above-ground surviving elements of the now-demolished greenhouse and pinery-vinery. The trial trenching also produced evidence for good preservation and survival of below ground elements of the pinery-vinery.
